So many texts in this blog about the world we would like to lie in – but sometimes you just have to write about the world you dont want. Some impressions from the monocultural tomato plantations / greenhouse deserts of the region of Almeria
—
red they are
red and juicy and nice
and full of Pesticides
two times a day the truck comes here to bring tons of tomatos and just put them here into the desert
why?
nobody can tell
ask “the system”
Paulas goats -and some crazy travellers- are happy about those red mountains
in the ghetto of Campohermoso an immigrant child gets very angry when I try to take a photo of his home
a little shack on the side of a big street where the tomato trucks are drivin through very quickly
in a field there is some boxes with stuff of a homeless person
the dogs he tied to his stuff to protect it start barking aggressively when we get closer
next to it lot of commercials for more ecological pesticides
lots of garbage everywhwere
and from far you can see the greenhouses
we drive through the inner city where you see only African and Arabian people
and end up in the desert of greenhouses with some slum huts in between the plastic where people are living
you can see it because of the clothes on the line and because of the satellite boxes on the roofs
probably they sit in there and watch TV from their country, in their native language
while Sam and Anna are wandering off to dumpster some tomatos from some huge containers of a wholesale market
an old man comes to the car who wants to sell us some chicken
and convince us to put them in some boxes into the back of the bus
is this really Europe?
And do you really want to eat food that comes from place like this?
BOYCOTT ALMERIA!
GROW YOUR TOMATOS AT HOME!
